Meadow watched as her mother died as the new Emperor squandered the people’s money when she knew the medicine that could have been brought in would save her mother. When we speaks out about going against his prized Tournament, she is arrested as punishment. As the wheels start to turn, Meadow finds secrets that will shift her world and the kingdom forever.

When my review goes up, the cover of this book won’t be up yet, so excuse the lack of photo!

I am thankful to the author for contacting me to review an eARC of the book, but unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me. I constantly put the book down and had difficulty picking it back up.

I did find the world building a little lacking and there were too many things happening which I couldn’t get a grip on. I also did find it a little slow paced. By 45% I was bored and speed read through the book and I was still confused about the world and did not care for the characters.

Although the book may not be for me, you could definitely give it a go if you are into Fantasy novels!

Title: Chilling adventures of Sabrina (2018-)

Genre: Drama, fantasy, Romance, horror

Rating: 4 stars

Review:

Season 1

Sabrina stays with her aunts and cousin, Ambrose. On her 16th birthday, she has to choose to either go through with the dark baptism and become a witch or to stay by her mortal friends & boyfriend, Harvey.

Very dark and atmospheric, the music as well. So many jump scares and grotesque  moments. Definitely extremely dark with triggering things like cutting, blood, hanging.

Besides tackling being a witch, she also helps her friends stand up for oppressed women in the school. I like the portrayal of Sabrina in this version, she is strong and fights for what she believes in. But I also am aware of a lot of people pointing out that the representation is pretty problematic, and I agree.

Dramatic and full of darkness, dipping it’s claws into your heart to find your inner witch. Dark, twisted and intense. Liked that the stakes keep on increasing. I found it pretty emotional in the last 2 episodes and would actually watch the next season!

I honestly got scared so many times, but it’s the temporary type, not the ‘you have to sleep with your lights on’ type.

Caledonia’s family was killed by the corrupt warlord Aric Athair and his army of bullets. But after pulling herself together, she now captains the Mors Navis with an all female crew with one mission, to take down Aric’s fleet. But when Caledonia’s second-in-command and best friend is saved by a defecting bullet, Caledonia finds herself questioning his intentions.

This book was action-packed with high stakes, I also wished there was a map! It was full of treachery and negotiations, pulling you along for the ride as though you are on the Mors Navis itself.

I felt that the world building was done well and it was really immersive. This book is an inspiring story about sisterhood, teamwork and trust.

I found Hime to be an interesting character while Caledonia is a thoughtful and fearless leader.

I finished the book in one sitting and it had me hooked. I would actually want to read the next book!

Marylyn is a rebel forced to carry out the rebellion’s biddings to protect her family and pay a debt. When word spreads that the Allegiant Prince, Ariston has escaped captivity and is back, Marylyn is forced to flee. But when she gets caught by him, she starts falling for him.

I wasn’t a fan of the insta-love. I did feel that the story was too rushed, the characters lacked depth and the relationship was too rushed for me. I couldn’t connect with the story or the characters.

I actually felt that the concept had a lot of promise, but everything felt too rushed for me.

The most important thing to Gemini is her job, but when a group of highly evolved beings think they know what is best for the Earth, it is in her hands to stop them from destroying the world.

I felt that the world building was too vague and there was no explanation for anything that was happening. I felt that the characters were pretty weak, not lovable and had no depth. I couldn’t connect them.

I think a deeper world building would have the story well.
